I'm posting this to see how many people are having the same problem as my self when it comes to renewing their Alabama Fresh Water/Salt Water Fishing license. I purchased a combo salt/fresh water license last year on 7/19/2007 for $24.50 and it expires on 7/18/2008 which is this Friday the first day of the Alabama Seep Sea Fishing Rodeo. I went to renew my license and I was told by the clerk that after I spend $24.50 it will only be good for a little over a month it will expire on 8/31/2008. At that point I will have to renew it aging for another $24.50. So for me to fish the next year it will cost an extra $24.50. I can't believe when the law was changed that all licenses would expire on August 31 that no one thought about the people that would need a license for a few days to a month. It looks to me that the state of Alabama is just trying to make a few extra dollars on fishing. I've called everyone that is listed on the Alabama License website and everyone tells me the same thing "there is nothing you can do but spend the extra money."

Thanks a lot Alabama!

That's not the only thing. I am being charged 10% of the assessed value of my house for "Other Structures" meaning things like outdoor sheds, decks, patios, fences, etc. In my case that means that the insurance company is insuring me for $25,000.00 for "Other Structures" and I am paying a premium for that amount when I only have about $6000.00 of "Other Structures". I contacted the Insurance Commission of Alabama and all that they told me is that I should try to talk to my insurance company and have it reduced. I had already done that before I contacted the Alabama Insurance Commission and my insurance compnay just told me that it is their policy to insure "Other Structures" a standard value of 10% of the value of the home and that is it. My question is, how can the Insurance Commission of Alabama allow insurance companies operating in Alabama to charge you premiums for things that don't exist? This just goes to show you that the Alabama Insurance Commission is in bed with the insurance companies that they allow to operate within the State of Alabama and that the Alabama Insurance Commission is working for the well-being of the insurance companies and not the citizens that they are supposed to be protecting from unfair insurance company practices. Check your own Homeowners Policy and most likely you are also paying more for "Other Structures" or whatever name your insurance company calls it than the actual amount of "Other Structures" that you have.
