Whomever did the planning on this project...engineer or not, was not a person that was
concerned at all about the people who actually live & work in the area...total disregard
in that respect...but then again, they dont live here nor do the workers in the 'dig'...so
its no skin off their backs......

I watched your "report" on "Draining Florida Street Business" and felt you ended it with a cheap shot at Hal Metzger, the owner of the Whistle Stop Cafe.
His health, surgery and the financial strain that was caused by this surgery should not have been your ending point.
The ISSUE is why has this road project been on the "books" (your word choice) and what is causing the delay in getting this project finished?
The Dauphin Street Extension project was done TWICE in one year. I believe the city laid the wrong size pipe the first time and had to redo the project to correct their error.
Who is in charge? Is he or she being questioned about the repeated delays in finishing this project?
Are the current MANY road "projects" and the delays and rerouting of traffic that they cause, the image we want to project to a potential multi-billion dollar employer?
We should be promoting and patroninzing or locally owned businesses rather than causing their possible failure.
I would like you to do further research on the Florida Street road project and find out what is causing the delay before we loose yet another locally owned business. delay

As of September 11, 2008. FLORIDA STREET SOUTHBOUND LANES ARE OPEN FROM DAUPHIN STREET TO AIRPORT BLVD. The Construction company has come up with a way to help keep traffic on the road. Creating a one way southbound. North bound traffic will have to go left at the Emogene st intersection and take a right on Calvin Street then right on Dauphinwood St then left on Florida St. at the railroad crossing.

Glad that something is being done for Florida Street businesses, according to the previous post, it was up to the construction company.... the City seems to be spending more time trying to get new businesses than help the existing ones. I hope the Florida Street businesses contacted city officials about this mess - I hoped they let the Mayor, Mr. Stokes and Mr. Bell know how this has affected the businesses and local community.
