I want to move out of state, and I am actually thinking about quitting my job and starting over. How long will my insurance cover me before I must pay out of my pocket, and does it carry over like that? Does it depend on the company and the type of insurance I have? I have never done this before, so I am unsure.

It is hard for companies to take me seriously out of state, when I am looking for jobs......They are pretty much hiring people that are already in the area so I don't really know what to do. The area I want to live does not have facilities even close to where I want to move too for transfer. Or should I just look for the closest facility? Which would mean more than one move!!

I am nearing 50, single/no children with avg health so I am taking a huge risk relocating w/o anything, can anyone help? I have BC/BS right now.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

I think you can find a lot of information about COBRA on the internet but to be certain how your specific coverage would work I think you're going to have to ask your plan administrator. If you have a benefits handbook there will likely be information pertaining to COBRA continuation there.

As you probably know, COBRA was created by a federal law to provide medical coverage when you lose group coverage through your employer. If I'm not mistaken - and I may be, so you need to verify this with your plan administrator! - COBRA is available for 18 months, and then can be extended based on other events.

If you feel uncomfortable talking to your plan administrator at work (for example, if you don't want them to know you may leave) there's always the district or regional office of the U.S. Department of Labor - Employee Benefits Security Administration. They should be able to answer any questions you have.

I wish you luck. I know it isn't easy starting over in a new place.

smile Cobra is really really expensive. You might have better luck just applying for an Individual Blue health plan avaliable through BC/BS-but I would try to obtain it in the State that you are moving to, (if that move will be in the near future).

Good luck-I wish I could pack up and move too sometimes!

I would reccommend goint to the insuremation website and seeing if you can get a short term (6mos-1year) policy. COBRA is so freaking expensive, you just might find you can do it cheaper through insuremation..
