A couple of nights ago I was watching the news(on channel 5 of course) and there was a segment on what I believe was the Bill proposed by Ben Brooks. On this segment there was a man, I suppose he was a Legislator and he made a comment that went something like" I live 400 miles from the coast and I don't have to like your bill". Maybe it's just me and I could be wrong(that has occured in the past),but I thought all of our elected officials are there to serve the needs of the people of Alabama. So he don't live near the coast! Does he vacation here along our beautiful beaches? Stay in the condo's along said beaches? Dine at the resturants here? If they can't get insurance to help get them back on their feet after a disaster, then sir, where will you go?
Help those close to home first yes, but you are after all a citizen of this state. Where we look to those in office to make sure we are not taken advantage of. It is after all what you were voted into office to do.

Thank you Ben Brooks for making a stand for Alabamians

I was shocked by his comment. It reminded me of Boeing's comment about the Air-force Tankers being built by foreigners. I never realized how far south we live. I know it gets really hot here in the summer, but it still gets pretty cold here in the winter, so I don't think we are too far away from the rest of the country, or state, which ever applies. Am I the only one that feels like an orphan?

I wonder how many of these politicians have condos or beach houses along the Gulf Coast? I realize they can afford the high cost of insurance and do not care that we can't, but aren't we the ones that pay their high salaries so that they can afford the summer home and the high insurance rate that goes alone with it?

I personally do not live close enough to the coast for my rates to go up, but I am still concerned for those that do. I am also concerned that my rates will eventually go up just because the insurance companies know that they can do it and get away with it.
