Well i guess its official if you dont live on dauphin island your not welcome there.  State money has funded the boat launch at “billy goat hole” to be built and maintained and rebuilt after every hurricane. Now the town in an effort to further alienate visitors who bring revinue to the island.  Next i guess we’ll see a sign at the north side of the bridge saying OUTSIDERS NOT WELCOME!!!

Not really sure what the previous post was trying to prove, but it seems they have a complaint.  Well, those of us who LIVE on the island have complaints too.  Visitors, if you come to OUR community, please abide by the speed limits, don’t litter, don’t play your loud music, and most of all, don’t complain when you’re given dirty looks by those of us who live there.
By the way, the revenue will be taken care of just fine.  Ask those who pass me going 85 MPH as they top the bridge.  Amazing what ignorance, and about 50 speeding tickets can do for a towns revenue huh?
Quit your complaining, respect our community, and find another place to launch your freakin’ boat...ok?

(Matthew 7:26-27) “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand,And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. wink

See, this is the attitude that makes people who don’t live on the island think that islanders are spoiled prima donnas.

This poster acts like every person who visits Dauphin Island does so with intent to litter, speed, and play loud music.  I’ve got news for you...people do that EVERYWHERE.  Do you think you’re living in some special paradise that exempts you from all things irritating?

I visit Dauphin Island a lot.  When I walk your beaches, not only don’t I litter, I pick up your trash.  I follow the rules of the road and I don’t play loud music.  I support your community with my tax dollars AND the money I spend on the island when I’m there.  And yet you think you have the right to tell me to launch my boat elsewhere?

People like you give the entire island a bad name.  Most of the folks I know who live there and who I’ve met when I visit are friendly, kind and welcoming.  I’ll bet your bad attitude is less because of the things visitors do and more because you’re a grinch who wishes your town was your own private island.

Look at all the revenue the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo brings to the island every July. Maybe the JC’s should find another location for the rodeo because there is not enough people living on the island to bring in that much revenue, and I’m sure that not all the participants live on the island.

NAB,

Way to go on putting little Dauphin Island in their overpriced place. Dauphin Island is a part of MOBILE county, therefore, anyone and everyone is entitled to use it. Should we shun all the people on the island from coming across the bridge to Mobile? Perhaps we don’t like the way their noses stick in the air, or the way that Hummer takes up too much room at the Wal-Mart of Mall parking lot. I would love to have an Dauphin Island retreat, but it is WAY overpriced, and if these are the kind of “neighbors” I would have, who needs it? Doesn’t matter anyway, in a few more hurricanes, the island will be gone and then they will have to belittle themselves to become mainlanders, or get buried at sea on their precious island.

I, along with the others who live on the island, pay taxes also.  We have jobs. So, the argument about cutting off tax money is moot.  From the complaints on this forum, it seems the people who DON’T live on the island have the complaint with the people who DO?  Just what did we do to you?  Not one thing.  This was a complaint about the GOVERNMENT on the island.  From my standpoint, I don’t agree with a lot that goes on behind town hall doors.  But this is my home.  By choice.  Much like yours is where ever you planted stakes.
I throughly apologize for agitating any Mobile Co. residents.  My anger is more to those from out of state, and can not respect OUR county and OUR town.  I know, that many of you feel the same way.
Money DOES run the island.  But to classify us all as people who can’t find a parking spot for our Hummers, is wrong.  Yes, those people exist here.  But I can’t relate with them.  Sorry.
Enjoy the island.  Just don’t litter or speed?  Please?  cheese

I can understand about frustration with government issues, whether that be your own town hall, or Washington DC. But to tell people to stay off the island and launch their boat elsewhere is wrong. It really doesn’t matter whether they are Mobile County residents or from out of state. Those snowbirds and vacationers help feed the revenue of not only the island, but of the county. It seems like there are less people flocking to the island. I know we thought about buying a second home there, but would rely on rental income to help offset the mortgage. Unfortunately, the rental economy was/is way down and we could not chance a $3000/mo mortgage. I wonder if the rentals are down due to disillusionment with the island. Maybe some of those that have vacationed there have felt the wrath of islanders, and not felt welcomed and decided to vacation elsewhere?
