Rumor has it that she will be leaving the CBS evening news soon. Anyone care? Anyone have any ideas for a replacement?

I never watch the evening news so it really would not matter to me who they put in her place. It's funny how times have changed. I remember when the evening news was so important to some people, now it seems to be a thing of the past. Most of us work in front of computers all day and get all our updates throughout the day. The last thing I want to do when I get home is listen to the news. Now I'm addicted to morning news and watch it while I get ready for work. Even on the weekends I will turn it on while I try to wake up.

I remember when Walter Cronkite was thought of as a member of the family and everyone always thought he was giving them the straight story. Those days are gone for sure. Like you, I spend most of my workday in front of a computer and get news alerts from several sources. I also keep the TV tuned to cable news, unless there is something special on I want to see, or I am in the mood for a movie.

I would rather see the local news expanded with more feature stories about things of interest in this area.

I couldn't agree more. I find out more about local interest/ things going on in Mobile from standing in line at a store and overhearing someones Else's conversation.

and that's the way it was.....watched walter on the black and white. Hated the news but we only got one channel, besides pbs. I like Katies voice. It's soothing? does that make any sense.

I have always liked Katie, but I never watch the network news these days. I always thought she was good doing interviews and special reports. It was fun seeing her colon back in the day. lol

This really comes as no surprise, I'm honestly shocked she lasted this long. Katie Couric was only a contender for this position because of the Today Show. She never seemed comfortable on The Evening News because there were no celebrity interviews, no guests to show off the newest gadgets or fashions. The Today Show is simply infotainment, and by no means a training grounds for a serious evening news anchor position. Let's bring in a serious journalist with some actual experience in NEWS.
