Mine makes you arrive 15min early they routinely makes you wait and wait-- first in waiting room, then examining room-- sometimes for hours. Patients with better (more profitable) insurance go first, then finally he rushes in and out in just a couple minutes (gives out pills)-- no time to listen. Its just a business now-- no more Marcus Welby's (or very few). Since when is their time more valuable than ours? Very un-professinal not to try to keep appointments regardless of who you may be(or at least explain). Its a take it or leave it attitude. Maybe we need a "patients union" of some sort.

Easy solution: get a new doctor. Doctors are like drug stores...there's one on every corner. All doctors do not treat their patients the way you've described (though I know what you're talking about because I've had doctors like that - before I changed). Sometimes the doctor has unexpected emergencies...we all understand that. But a doctor who runs his business in such a way that he's habitually overbooked with patients is simply not doing the best job he can do.

The doctor I now have has never made me wait more than ten minutes in the waiting room or five minutes once placed in an examining room. He's learned, I guess, that treating his patients the way he himself would like to be treated has paid off for him, because he has a thriving business with patients who would never consider going elsewhere.

If you do decide to find another doctor, I strongly suggest you tell you doctor why you're leaving. Often a doctor doesn't even know how his staff is managing patients (though he should). When enough patients leave a doctor for the reasons you've mentioned, maybe then they'll look at problems within their staff - and themselves - and change for the better.

Yeah, I hate going to the doctor and I always feel worse after I leave. The guy never remembers a thing about me and never takes the time to glance over my chart before I go in. His main function is to just send me to see some other doctor.

How does a person find a good doctor? I'm not happy with mine and would like to make a change, but I don't want to jump out of the proverbial frying pan, etc.

Word of mouth. Recommendations from family, friends, co-workers. Ask people who have no ulterior motives and will be honest with you who they like and why.
