I remember when a gallon of gas averaged 30 cents a gallon, a guy would fill your tank, check your oil, check the pressure in your tires and wash your windshield. Then he would give you a free set of glasses or Green Stamps so you would come back. What the heck happened????? Regulations?
And I imagine that is why so many of the "mom and pop" type stores are going under. It's sad that the big corporate world doesn't allow a chance for the independent owner. I see very few independently owned gas stations or anything anymore-as opposed to as little as ?maybe 5years ago. I don't remember gas at 30 cents/gallon, but I do remember collecting green stamps-got my parents their first Mr. Coffee!!! Wish I had some green stamps, or food stamps or something to help with these soaring prices-lol!
from Dixiegirl!! I hear that the truckers are all going on strike April 1-3 due to these HIGH Gas Prices. If everyone would unite, park the trucks, and not buy fuel, maybe that would get the attention of our ELECTED officials, and the ones getting rich off the American worker! Who's going to decide when we've had enough?? The government could intervene if they wanted too, by opening the federal oil reserve, or capping the profits of the billioniares at Exxon, Shell, etc. Is anyone participating in the strike?

look at this way if you paid 321.9 for 5000 gals of gas and the next day it dropped in price which no one can tell would you lower your price no i can tell you when the stations get loads at a cheaper price they will drop but until i sell the fuel i purchased at 321.9 a gallon i cant afford to sell it for less and if it were up to me all the gas stations should would go on strike to protest the distributors are the ones making the money not the stations if every gas station would refuse to buy you bet these prices would come down real quick the truckers are a good start
I know people think we should all drive smaller cars to save on gas, etc. I know I drive one of those big SUV's and have compared mpg's etc and truthfully there is not a LOT of difference in my gas mileage and some smaller cars or even mini vans, with the exception of the super compact models. When I factor in the wear and tear that a smaller car would endure, going down some of the pig trails I do in my job, I actually do better driving my 'Burb. I also think that the way my truck is built is MUCH safer than smaller cars-I was actually hit by a semi today, and thank God, I am generally OK (sore, achy, but alive), and my truck has minor damage. I shudder to think what could have been, had I been in a Civic or Camry.
I drive 100 miles round trip to work everyday, if it keeps going I don't know what will happen. I already drive a smaller car. I drive across the mobile speedway everyday, if I were suicidal I would by a motor cycle. I wish they would establish some form of publis transportation across the bayway.
I drive a truck too, it costs about $100 to fill it up. And there have even been a couple times where I wasn't able to go to school because I couldn't afford to put gas in my car. Its seriously getting bad. If it gets too much worse, my boyfriend and I decided that we are going to have to get paid to go to work.. atleast gas money, (we work at the same place), we already car pool but when we work different shifts its horrible! I have a Ford Explorer Sport Trac and he has a Nissan Exterra.. they are both pretty bad and we are running out of options.
