I think this story hits at a most appropriate time. These planes are grounded for major mechanical problems and is front page news today in Seattle WA. papers and on their local news channels. And YES they use the name "Boeing" in the same sentence as the words " grounded and problems."

Senator Murray's Statement on FAA Maintenance Inspections Announcement

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 18, 2008

(Washington, D.C.) - Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chairman of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement in regard to the FAA’s announcement of enhanced reviews of airline maintenance records:

“While the FAA is doing the right thing in accelerating its review of airline maintenance practices, this announcement also raises concerns about the FAA’s lax oversight in this area. American taxpayers employ almost 4,000 FAA safety inspectors across the country whose principal job is to ensure that the airlines follow all safety rules and regulations. The fact that the FAA now feels the need to double check its work raises a lot of questions that the American people deserve answers to.”

Murray will pursue this and related aviation safety matters at a subcommittee hearing on April 17.

It is a shame that the government contracting procedures are so inundated with politics rather than getting a quality product for a reasonable cost. Senator O'Bama even weighed in on the awarding of the tanker contract to EADS/Northrop-Grumman and I suspect quite a few other politicians did as well. I have nothing against Senator O'Bama, but he should have not said anything about the award. None of the folks running for the office of the President of the United States should have said anything about the award. The awarding of a government contract is a long affair with many checks and balances built in to the process. It is apparent that the Air Force folks determined that Northrop-Grumman/EADS would provide the product they need at a reasonable cost. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the bid submitted by Boeing was much higher than that submitted by Northrop-Grumman/EADS. In our shaky economy, I have to applaud the Air Force for not bending to the political pressure and for their not spending more of our money.

Ulriche, I suggest that before you tell anyone to go educate themselves that you go out and get an education, yourself. And please don't try to educate yourself, because the illiterate cannot teach the illiterate. (Garbage in; garbage out.) Your post is littered with misspellings, improper grammar, and just plain ignorance.

Ulriche..............I understand you must have "special needs" but if you were to try reading twice and then thinking a little bit harder the words wouldn't cause you so much confusion . LOL. Don't blame it on the dreary weather up there either. LOL
