It is not what we do if the contract is lost. It is how we fight to make sure it stays in Mobile, AL. How, write letters to your representatives online. Read blogs on Boeing. Go to the town meeting when Lou Dobbs comes to town.

L. Dobbs states we are losing American jobs in the contract and that more jobs would be created for Americans if Boeing got the contract. He also proposes the contract would be a security threat.

Boeing has not completed one of the largest jobs it has now, the 787 Dreamliner. In fact it has outsourced 70% of the job to none union and foreign companies. In 2007 it pushed back deliver for the first plane and blamed it on the outsourced work. In Jan. 2008 it announced another delay. According to the Seattle Times 3/2008 fewer than 45 of the over 110 planes ordered will roll out in 2009, and another delay is expected to announced at the end of this month.
Boeing has contracts to deliver it's new "Dreamliner 787" to US and foreign customers. One of the customers is the Italian AF. One of the American customers is a US Airline. One foreign customer is Japan, this is just to clarify.

Now for the best part. Who is Boeing? A US company that keeps all of the jobs here? That is their argument and it is dead wrong. The Boeing 787 composite wings are made in plants across the world. And there is more. Ever heard of BOEING FRONTIERS? It is more than 300 European Companies in 22 countries that serve as partners and suppliers for Boeing planes and aircraft. Italy's Finmecanica and the United Kindom's
BAE Systems are strategic partners with Boeing. Boeings Japanese partners receive substantial subsidies and indirect support from the Japanese government.

I think most of the Alabama Senators and Representatives already support this deal. Seattle and Kansas will never support this contract. We need to be writing to the other states that will benefit from the contract. NG also needs to really spell out the differences in the 3 aircraft that are at the center of this conversation in very simplistic terms.

How do you think they sell a lot of their planes? They promise part of the manufacturing to the countries that buy the planes. I am suprised no one has brought up their other billion dollar contract called CSAR. Combat Search and Rescue helicopters. They won the bid a couple of years ago using the HH-47 Chinook helicopter. Two other bidding companies contested the contract award and won. I don't know all the facts but, something was evidently wrong with the bidding process. So all the companies are to re-bid sometime this year.

Boeing won that contract and Lockheed lodged the protest. I think a decision will be made this summer.

"John McCain once again is investigating the Air Force’s procurement moves, this time a decision to award Boeing a contract valued at around $40 billion for new combat rescue helicopters.

On April 24, McCain’s aides on the Senate Armed Services Committee met with a senior Air Force acquisitions official for the first time to discuss the award, but the officials failed to satisfy McCain’s concerns, said a congressional aide familiar with the discussions."

Accept it. That's what I'm hearing Boeing should do. This is the first contract Boeing has protested ever.

I think it's a good sign to see so much desperation coming from the other side. Mobile will be o.k. either way.

Speaking of Boeing outsourcing its products, we all know and have experienced first-hand the sloppy products produced and dumped on us by China. Well, get a load of this. (And this is copied from a Boeing publication.)

Boeing is pleased to have been invited to help Chinese companies develop skills, achieve certification, and join world aviation and supplier networks. China has an increasingly sophisticated and expanding part to play in the commercial aviation industry and has a role on all of Boeing commercial airplane models -- 737, 747, 767, 777 and the newest and most innovative airplane, the 787 Dreamliner. China builds horizontal stabilizers, vertical fins, the aft tail section, doors, wing panels and other parts on the 737; 747 trailing edge wing ribs; and 747-8 ailerons, spoilers and inboard flaps. China also has an important role on the new 787 Dreamliner airplane, building the rudder, wing-to-body fairing panels, leading edge and panels for the vertical fin, and other composite parts.

Since the 1980s, Boeing has purchased more than US$1 billion in aviation hardware and services from China. Today, Boeing and Boeing supplier partners have active supplier contracts with China's aviation industry valued at well over $2.5 billion. Today, there are more than 4500 Boeing airplanes flying throughout the world with parts and assemblies built by China.

China is the first conversion location for the new 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter. Many parts and assemblies are built in China. Conversion, test and certification are performed in China and airplanes are delivered from China.

Boeing equity investment in China is considerable, and Boeing procurement from China is significantly greater than other aviation companies. In fact, Boeing is China's aviation manufacturing industry's largest foreign customer. But the most critical Boeing investment in China is training, particularly safety, aviation quality practices, business and executive training, as well as technical support.

Need I say more?

Why doesn't the Air Force just stipulate that all of the work will be done in America? That way the 19,000 jobs that are going to Europe will stay here in Alabama.
