I have live in the Fairhope area for more than ten years and kept hearing news that count road 181 would be re-constructed to four lanes.  The road is a major therofare between Spanish Fort and Highway 98 leading into Foley.  Especially, at peek traffic hours, the road is really conjested.  Also, it is a major road in an evacuation.  Major home construction has taken place in the past few years and the road is becoming a critical support for the homeowners.  The road has very deep drainage ditches on both sides in some places which is a hazard.  Would WKRG be interested in researching why the construction has not taken place in such a long time.  Thanks in Advance-- Bill

Its the old bait and switch: the pols told us they’d make 181 a priority, but used the money instead to complete tiny 2 lane CR13(now underway)--because a few developers and local land owners wanted it, for the most part.  Its not gonna help commuters to Mobile at all--just open up more land for development!! snake

The state has started purchasing the land for widening 181 from the Greek Church to 64. No one can say how long it will take to finish the acquisitions, because some of the property owners might not want to sell. Two years from now they could still be in court deciding how much the State will pay them for their land. Only after they have the deeds can they start construction.
