Last night (3/9) the guy was voted off who gave the car to the restaurant manager. I thought the gal who took the women out for manicures/dinner should have been gone, because she didn't do anything that lasts. Ok, for one day they felt special. Feelings don't last, and they still have medical bills they can't pay. Dinner is one meal, whereas the restaurant fundraiser multiplied the seed money many times over. So the guy wanted to "reward" the restaurant guy for helping - I don't think that was wrong. I think the judges were wrong. What do you think?

Mobile Museum

It's amazing how when we live in an area sometimes we never take advantage of the great stuff that's right in our own city.

I've lived here for decades but went to the City of Mobile Museum downtown for the first time yesterday. I highly recommend it for a fun way to spend an afternoon.

It's huge and filled with fascinating things both past and present. And for only five bucks it's a real bargain.

And if you have kids (or even if you don't), right around the corner is the "Grossology" exhibit at the Exploreum which is...well, gross and interesting at the same time.

The Golden Compass

Who plans to see "The Golden Compass"? I know I've been forwarded lots of e-mails from my extra-religious friends, urging me to boycott this anti-Christian movie. Of course I also got lots of e-mails years ago about Harry Potter, too.

Evidently in Compass-world, every human being is accompanied by a "daemon" - an animal-shaped buddy who is mentally tied to that person. Now, the villains in the movie belong to "The Magisterium" which detractors of the film think represents the Catholic church. However, reviewers of the movie say that these bad guys come across more like the Evil Empire in Star Wars than any real-life religious organization.

Wasn't The Da Vinci Code an explicit attack on the central tenets of Christianity and Catholicism? But I don't remember a lot of outrage about that movie when it was released.

My curiosity has been piqued so I feel sure I'll go see The Golden Compass. That's what generally happens when any religious group tries to squelch a movie based on its "anti-Christian themes" but the result is always that more people, not less, want to then see for themselves if it's true.
