Netlore Archive: Email rumor claims charismatic U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama is the Antichrist prophesied in the New Testament

Description: Email rumor
Circulating since: March 2008
Status: Downright silly

Email example contributed by C. Green, March 13, 2008:

According to The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is:

The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal.... the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is it OBAMA??
What to do in Mobile?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you all could give suggestions as to things to do around Mobile. I have lived here most of my life, but guess I take it for granted. We are hosting a student from France for 3 weeks in July, and I would really like for them to enjoy their stay here. I know the typical spots-like the Battleship,etc...but I am looking for some things that maybe aren't well known. For instance, I know the Lighthouse in Bayou la batre/Irvington has the best seafood around, and is probably one of our best kept secrets! I also need inexpensive or free if possible, as I will be paying for my family of 6, plus our guest. Even suggestions to areas surrounding Mobile, within an hour or so travel time would be great! Thanks-I hope to hear some great ideas!

Global Warming

Do you really think that Global Warming is as awful as the media is making it out to be? I personally don't. Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize really floored me. If you never have you need to watch Glenn Beck. He had a whole show on 'The Inconvenient Truth.' Now he has a whole book on it. There is a petition signed by 19,000 scientists who do not believe in the 'myth' of global warming. There's political and capitalist agendas behind the propaganda. NBC had green week, but they neglected to tell the viewers NBC is owned by GE, a company larger than the oil companies, and with more lobbying power than anyone. If all the congressional acts/bills pass they will profit in billions.

It is amazing that these candidates keep telling tall tales in this day of instant research......

"Barack Obama is getting called out again for his knowledge of history, including his own family’s, after declaring to veterans on Memorial Day that his uncle helped liberate the Auschwitz death camp at the end of World War II.

Two problems with the tale: Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Army, and Obama’s American mother was an only child."
An analogy between the November elections and the NFL draft.

All of the focus in this years election cycle is on the executive race, and very little thought is being given to the race for legislative offices.
Lets say the federal government is a pro football team, and it's coming up on draft day. We have a high first round pick, because our franchise has fallen into disrepair, and there are three quarterbacks who are projected first-rounders. Do we focus our attention on selecting the best of the three, or do we trade down for more picks?
I think we trade down. The executive course is set no matter who the quarterback is. They're not going to be asked to win; just not to lose instead. Our team's got a bunch of gimpy has-beens and dead-woods, all going through the motions so they can put more time in towards retirement. Right now, our legislators will either roll over on their backs and let corporate interests rub their tummies (like Joe Bonner), or else they'll fight tooth and nail for an errant cause (Alaska's Ted Stevens).
We need a bunch of scrappy players on the field who'll fight to defend the common good. we need sincere debate on issues, and fair collective judgements that are based on the merits of a given item.
You could cut off their heads and switch their bodies, and it still wouldn't make a dimes worth of difference which one of the three contenders becomes president. But congress--now that's something we could really zero in on and improve upon.

Democratic Debate 4/16

Did anyone else watch it?

Obama was finally asked some tough questions and he danced around them with a few uh's and ah's. Hillary seemed a little more composed to me, but I couldn't help but think what a sad day it is when that is the best that party has to offer. Both of them are toting around some heavy baggage based upon their past relationships with unsavory characters.

Maybe McCain was the only winner in that one. Any thoughts about the debate?

Does anyone think his speech in San Francisco will hurt his chances, or will it slide off his teflon coating like all the other things that have come to light?
I don't think the American people really know who this guy is and things like this hint at what the real man is all about.

I don't know how he did it and kept getting elected in Arizona, but that is quiet an accomplishment for McCain. It also says that he doesn't just talk the talk......
