Fairhope Mayor solution here!!!

Let's ask former Mayor James Nix to come out of retirement and take back his old job (pretty please?)! He has the business degrees to run both gov. and utilities at the same time. Then Mr. Kant could take his old job back --public works director-- he was so good at. We ought to keep the current director(Jennie Fidler) on board too, since she's done a good job in difficult times(she's a cutie too! :roll: ) Then we can all just get back to keeping Fairhope, Fairhope. Can't everybody just get along? :cheese:

Motorcyclists

I feel there should be PSA's about watching out for motorcyclists as gas prices climb. There are alot of inconsiderate people who don't care if they run us off the road because they want to go faster or get there before everybody else. I have had to pull off the road a few times and let cars go around me because they want to drive over the speed limit and they get so close to me that a few have almost hit me because of riding my tire and not caring. Most are women and on their cell phones and eating at same time. Leave alittle earlier if you feel you have not feelings if you run motorcyclists off the road. Hang up your phones and most of all PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoulda Woulda Coulda?

The story of the 60 y/o man that trespassed and allegedly assaulted a teenager and was beaten to death with a stick in a gang-like manner by children and adults is a story that reveals one of the most senseless and barbaric acts in our community. I think it's important to remember that shoulda woulda coulda never did anything but make excuses. My thoughts are with the families of all of those involved.

highway 98 fatalities on the rise?

Does anyone have any information about the wreck that occurred on Hwy 98 (Moffett Rd) today in front of Semmes Middle School? I heard it was really bad, and there were several fatalities when a semi jack-knifed and hit a couple of cars, and either the cars, or the truck exploded. I know traffic was blocked from Snow Rd to Blackwell Nursery. I am wondering if some of the accidents that happen on this road, could be avoided if it was 4- laned all the way to Mississippi. There is heavy traffic through this area, and with a lot of big rigs going through. I know I am guilty of not always following the speed limit, but sometimes that is hard to do when you have a semi grill on your bumper. Just wondering if more lanes could help, so traffic isn't bottle-necked, and people do stupid things like pass in the turn lane, etc.

Mobile County Fire/Rescue vs. Volunteer Fire Deparments

Mobile County Fire/Rescue seems to be trying to take over the smaller communities around it. There are several volunteer fire departments that have hard working men and women that give all their spare time to helping those in their own community, yet Mobile County Fire/Rescue seems to think that they can just come in and take over. I just don't feel this is right considering all the time and effort that all these people put into their spare time towards the community. I believe that some of the calls are actually being held from the volunteer fire departments so that the Mobile County Fire/Rescue can actually get there instead of letting those who are closer to the incident assist. I think that these men and women deserve some recognition and some help with keeping their volunteer fire departments open and alive.

The Neverending Sex Toy Ban

I'm sure most of y'all read the news article about former Alabama governor-hopeful Loretta Nall suggesting that all Alabama residents mail their sex toys to Attorney General Troy King's office in Montgomery. Earlier in the week she evidently sent King an inflatable pig. Where do you even buy an inflatable pig, and what would you do with one once you'd purchased it?<br />
<br />
In any case, reading this article I came across this blurb which nicely shows Nall's sense of humor.<br />
<br />
<i>"Nall campaigned for governor in 2006 on the Libertarian ticket. When a political columnist drew attention to her cleavage, she didn't like it at first. But she turned the publicity to her advantage, raising campaign funds by selling T-shirts with her photo and the slogan, "More of these boobs!! And less of these boobs." Beneath the slogan were pictures of Bob Riley, Lucy Baxley and other candidates."</i><br />
<br />
I think most people agree that what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedrooms is not something that should be regulated by laws, local or national. Well, maybe meAmerican, as I do recall how he (she?) called Yvonne and me "aroused" making that word sound somehow much dirtier than it really is. But anyway, it's disappointing that reports like the sex toy ban continue to hit national news, maintaining Alabama's reputation as backwards in the eyes of the rest of the nation.<br />
<br />

I am just as upset as Oneal's daddy on this case. What in the world has happened to it?? Being a friend for a short while before Oneal's life was taken, I want ANSWERS!!! I live one street over from where this happened, my son would always be over at their house....we deserve answers....get up and get busy. This is a insult to all of us that live at the golf course, and to all in Citronelle. Someone needs to get the fire started back under the authorities behinds. WE DESERVE ANSWERS and so do the Perret family.

Speeding F’hope kids . . .

--drinking, text-messaging, phoning-- running thru stop signs and redlights are nothing new; they're only mimicking the bad driving habits of their parents and other adults they see around them. Our traffic police are doing the best they can: problem is there aren't enough of them(only two!). The politicians are mostly impotent it seems to do anything about it: insuring more and more deaths/injuries. In their defense tho, most voters want others to follow traffic laws, but don't want to have to do so themselves! Can't just fault the kids until adults finally begin acting responsibly; in a state where watching speeding cars crash is the major sport(NASCAR) things aren't likely to improve anytime soon! :mad:
