This story has become too quiet! What is going on? Is Northrop doing anything at Brookley, or just waiting for GAO to make a decision? Are our Senators and Representatives doing anything to help the cause?

if you really want more domestic competition, otherwise they can charge taxpayers anything and get away with it-- just call anybody who objects "un-patriotic".

for Boeing Corp. They're the only domestic large aircraft manufacturer left after "consolidation" (mergers) in the industry. Long gone are former competitors Lockheed and Mac Donald/Douglas and Northrup/Grumman can't do it alone anymore. Boeing can charge taxpayers anything if they have no competition. Maybe that's the way they want it!! A good conspiracy theory. What's really needed are more American builders to break Boeing's monopoly. Competition is good! :cheese:

Boeing Phone campaign

I talked to a coworker (who lives in Virginia Beach, VA) who received a phone call this week asking him to contact his local politicians and voice a protest against the project here in Mobile. He and I had a conversation about the whole situation, so he was aware that the planes would be assembled here in Mobile. The caller told him that the tankers would be built overseas. He argued they were going to be built here and the lady caller told him she didn't know that. Then she told him he was wrong and proceeded to hang up on him.
I guess some people will not stop at anything to get this project taken away from us. I'm not sure who she said she was representing but I would venture to say that Boeing had a hand in it.
Just another reason to support EADS and keep those tankers here in the port city!!

Whaaaaaaa But we sould get that contract whaaaaa

For 60 some odd years boeing had MOST of the airplane contracts for the U.S. Air Force. Seems a little strange that nobody else in the country can put together an airplane EXCEPT them. Wow, the people of the south must really be stupid. Why can I not find them? All I keep finding here is smart and brilliant people. Or I know,to build airplanes you must not have ANY manners . (I am a truckdriver, I see it a lot when I go out west.)

Since the airframe won't be built here in Alabama, why can't Northrop buy Boeing commercial aircraft and upgrade them to be tankers? That way more of the jobs stay in the US and everyone will be happy.

One of the arguments against the contract award was that there would be a security problem with Euro countries providing material for the contract. It should be pointed out that Northrup/EADS are on the approved vendor list and there was no problem prior to the award.

Another argument I've heard indicated that Alabama workers were not skilled enough to handle such a contract. Those detractors need to be made aware of the fact that Alabama has the top technology city in the world, behind Silicon Valley only. Not only that, but withing the same commute time as present in Seattle (the Mississippi Alabama Gulf Coast), we have skilled workers, not only in aerospace, but also in nuclear, chemical, and other areas. Like your laser printer? It was invented here in Mobile.

44 BOEING PLANES GROUNDED

I think this story hits at a most appropriate time. These planes are grounded for major mechanical problems and is front page news today in Seattle WA. papers and on their local news channels. And YES they use the name "Boeing" in the same sentence as the words " grounded and problems."

Compare the bids….

I'm looking for a comparison (chart) of the tanker bids if anyone has read / found one. I checked Rep. Bonners website as I had heard he had information but it must have been removed.
I've been involved in a discussion about how many jobs will be created, how much money this will make the US as opposed to foreign economies, ect and wish to have documentation to back up my side.
I have to head to work now but will try to look up the information and post a chart of it later if no one has it handy.
Thanks
