I must admit, I am a Star Trek fan. I’d take Sisko over Picard in a fight, but that’s a web story for another day. This weekend is the premier of the 11th movie in the franchise’s 40-plus year history. It’s also the film that, creators hope, will revitalize one of science fiction’s most enduring brands. Enter the “USS Continuum.” It’s a Pensacola group united by their love of “Trek.” They are a chapter of Starfleet and the International Star Trek Fan Association. Crewmembers of the Continuum have set up a booth at the Rave Motion Pictures Bayou 15 in Pensacola. They’re looking for additional members. The group is a lot like any social organization—but with futuristic costumes. They organize outings, fundraisers and community service projects. Crewmembers are united in their love for science fiction. For more information you can visit their website here. You can also check out information on the new movie here.
In the video I talked to a few members about their group. We find out which term is more preferred: trekkie or trekker—and why get into those uniforms anyway?
