Last Tuesday, a postal carrier found Charles Boylan dead outside a Gulf Breeze home. The discovery led the Sheriff's Department to investigate the death as suspicious. Now the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office says that Boylan shot himself in the chest. Investigators came to learn that Boylan was found outside the home of William Hutson. When deputies arrived, it appeared that Boylan was killed from a gunshot wound, but there was no weapon outside the home.
Hutson later told investigators that he found his personal shotgun next to Boylan, who was laying face down in the yard. Hutson said he picked up his gun and went inside his house, leaving Boylan in the yard. He then said he laid down on his couch and took a nap. It was 2 and a half hours later that the postal carrier called police. Hutson was arrested for tampering with evidence and has since been released. The Santa Rosa county Medical examiner has ruled that Boylan's death was in fact caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest and that evidence supports that no foul play was involved.
