FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Public school students in Broward
County are now able to text-message authorities if there's danger
on campus.
That's in response to a fatal shooting at a Fort Lauderdale high
school in November.
Superintendent James Notter said he realized after the shooting
that students are just as likely to send a text message as make a
phone call.
So he expanded the district's "Silence Hurts" program, which
urges students to tell someone if there's a weapon on campus.
The program has a 24-hour hot line and now a devoted number to
send text messages to, all anonymously.

I do not personally feel that a high school age student is the best responder to a situation….do they have the knowledge and experience to determine what is truly an emergency? Don’t know….do know this though…on that same cell they can cheat and surf for porn…in class….Personally I think cell phones are a bad idea in the school setting.

So this means it IS ok for students to have cell phones on campus, or will they still be taken from them???
