ORANGE PARK, Florida - Investigators have finished talking to
all the registered sex offenders living within a 5-mile radius of
Somer Thompson's house, though none of them is considered a suspect
in the girl's death.
Clay County Sheriff's spokeswoman Mary Justino also said Friday
that no witnesses have come forward to say they saw the 7-year-old
attacked or abducted.
Somer's body was found Wednesday by investigators sorting
through tons of garbage in a Georgia landfill.
She vanished while walking home from her Orange Park school on
Monday. Justino says investigators are collecting evidence from a
vacant home along that road because the girl was last seen in front
of it.
An autopsy has been completed, but authorities won't disclose
their findings.

I am appalled at the number of people placing the blame on the mother of this child. This mother is experiences the senseless loss of her child in addition to coping with the overwhelming guilt this she is experiencing. If this is not enough punishment I don’t know what is.  This lady is a single working mother with 3 children trying to meet her childrens basic needs of food, shelter, water, heat, and clothing. I have a six year old child and would not let him walk from the bus stop either, but I have the luxury of being home during the week to get my child off the bus.  Apparently this lady lady wasnt fortunate enough to afford the same luxury. I guess she could’ve stayed home on welfare, and would be there when her child arrived but people would judge her for that too. This is and unfortunate henious crime committed against an innocent child.  The person that committed the crime is at fault.  It is all of our responsibility to protect these innocent children.  Please watch out for your own children as well as others. Children are the most precious gift we are given to share lets all band together to be vigilant and prevent this from happening in the future. My thoughts and prayer are with this family.  I hope they leave no stone unturned until this monster is brought to justice.

Just what is the magic date to allow your child out of the house, walking from a bus stop with other kids or to walk through a store to a bathroom, alone? I am always surprised at the ABSOLUTES people declare. It sounds like blame on the parents. As Mr. Gump says, “It happens.”

According the the FBI, stranger abduction is fairly rare. Better watch your new hubby or wife, they are more likely to harm your kids than Mr. Bob down the road.

I read somewhere that there are several, several children who walk home and walk that route.  I also read that there was a male family friend at their house and that he texted the mother when the child did not show up when the other children arrived home.  He is my suspect right now.  No one has mentioned him again.

Where were the parents? 7 years old walking alone?

I’d make all the predators lives in the area a living he11 until one of them coughed up the name or information needed to nail this one down.
You can bet at least one knows who did this or whose trade mark this is.I don’t have much confidence in this area’s sheriff department so far.Seems the FBI should be involved since the body was found across state lines.

This is so sad, I would not allow my 8 year old to walk home from the bus stop. My prayers go out to the family.

I just don’t understand in this day and time why parents would allow a 7 year old to walk home from school alone.

I find it hard to believe that the police have questioned and confirmed the whereabouts of all of them at the time of the abduction.  Come on how can you not consider them suspects?
