The Escambia County Florida Sheriff's Office wants your attention and they're going high tech to get it.
The Sheriff's office is installing a state of the art sound system in 40 of their squad cars. The system, known as the Rumbler, sends out sound waves.

A slight vibration will alert a distracted driver while a patrol car is passing by during an emergency. The system is already being used simultaneously with squad lights and sirens. The Sheriff's office hopes the system will help drivers heed their warning. "If people see us coming and hear us coming and feel us coming they will know to move out of the way...and it's safer for all concern,"Said Captain Gary Montee with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says they are the first law enforcement agency on the Gulf Coast to use the Rumbler.

If the car tag was the cell number you would probably get a busy signal if you called.

I wish sometimes that your car tag was also your cell number…..

I saw a guy in a car with his stereo so loud that his car rattled and he was also had his cell phone to his ear. If the police want to compete with this behavior they should sell tickets, give it a suvivor name and put it on television.

I totally agree with wait4me!!!

What they need to do is enforce the left lane is for passing only law.  Start pulling people over and warning or ticketing them. Get it out in the media also. Install a device in vehicles that disables cell phones, unless it is an operator assisted emergency call, then most of these dipsticks would realize there are others on the road and they wouldn’t drive 40mph in the left lane on I-10 and 15mph on Airport.

Sounds like the Sheriff’s office got ripped off!  Ha!  What a joke!  I wonder what they paid for 40 of these….ha!

A good question: Just how is this going to get the attention of the people in the many vehicles in the city that play their stereos so loud that the vibrations are felt in passing vehicles? These people cannot hear the sirens or feel the vibration from the police or emergency response vehicles that come anywhere near them.

Has this been safely tested for public use? Certain frequencies at sustained volumes or amplitudes can disrupt heart rythms and pace-makers, and can be potentially lethal.

maybe if they put some lowrider hydraulics they would see them bobbing up and down to!!!! K-pasta,  vomit toast

Noooooo…

drivers will just think its another car playing rap music and go about their business.
