A whirlwind trip filled with history and honor.
King Juan Carlos the First and Queen Sofia of Spain would be in town less than 24 hours but their presence was felt by thousands.
The only public event for the royal visit was in front of the T.T. Wentworth Museum and it was here that thousands finally heard from King Juan Carlos. "We are in Pensacola to honor the Spanish legacy and admire the descendant's that helped to build this country."
Among those in the crowd, Sucie Korleski, "For me, it's an honor to be here." She is a transplant from Seville Spain and spoke briefly with the king. "I can't believe he shook my hand. he asked me where I was from and I said Seville and he said good luck because he loves Seville."
The visit may have been brief but it renewed the history, culture and friendship shared by two countries.
The 17 hour visit was capped off with a royal luncheon for about 500 guest who paid 250 dollars each to dine with the king and queen.
