WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Florida pharmacy has told The
Associated Press it incorrectly prepared a medication for 21 polo
horses that died over the weekend while preparing to play in a
championship match.
Jennifer Beckett of Franck's Pharmacy in Ocala, Fla., told the
AP in a statement the business conducted in internal investigation
that found "the strength of an ingredient in the medication was
incorrect." The statement did not say what the ingredient was.
State authorities have been investigating. The pharmacy says it
is cooperating with the investigation.
The horses were part of the Lechuza Polo team.

This kind of manipulation of animals happens right here in Mobile. I know of a certain Realtor with Tennessee Walking Horses that would soak the horses’ legs with kerosene and wrap them in Saran wrap. After they would blister up pretty bad, he would wrap chains on their legs apparently to help “train” them to pick up their front legs “properly.” This activity is illegal, and frowned on by just about everybody, but can be so hard to prove. The only way I knew about this case was because his young son knew about it, and didn’t know it was a secret!

where is Rosepetal when you need her. Doping horses before a race or polo match has been going on for years. peta should be having a field day with this. I guess they’re to busy putting on there Dale Earnhardt jr dancing shoes

They were finding blood in the lungs.

Kind of what I figured.  Pushing them too far and using drugs to keep them going.  Probably stopped their hearts.

I read the AP article this morning. The combination of drugs (not approved in the US) is for exhaustion.

It is a heartbreak!  Can you think of any legitimate reason to be giving these horses drugs just before the polo match?

Bama, I am a horse person.  What happened to those beautiful animals is unthinkable and such a heartbreak.

How sad for those horses. How bad for this pharmacist. She won’t be mixing any kind of drugs in jail for this grave error.

I’m not a horse person.  What kind of deadly drug would be given to 21 horses just before they were to perform?

That pharmacy is very lucky they weren’t my horses.
