Tex Malone has lived on Blue Angel Lane for four years. The Pensacola man says what happened across the street Sunday morning has both disappointed and frightened him.
"I definitely keep my doors locked, I keep the bolts on them," says Malone.
Sheriff's deputies say Wendell Hurley broke into a mobile home and shot the homeowner. The victim, Timothy Thames, died at a local hospital. Detectives tell News 5 Hurley had an unknown accomplice during the home invasion. Investigators say Hurley is a convicted felon and is armed and dangerous.
"He's dangerous for sure," says Malone. "If he's prone to shoot somebody."
While investigators try to flush Hurley out of hiding, many people living on this quiet street have packed up and left, choosing to stay in a hotel until Hurley is captured.
Call the Escambia County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers if you have any information about the murder.
