---Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director
Robert Freeman found not guilty in school prayer case. We will much more on News 5 at 10:00 p.m. and later on WKRG.com.

Florida Congressman Jeff Miller made a passionate plea to his colleagues on Capitol Hill in defense of two Pace High School officials facing criminal charges for praying during a luncheon.

During a speech Tuesday on the floor of the House of Representatives, Rep. Miller (R-District 1) said "the judicial branch is once again trying to act like the legislative branch," saying a federal order forbidding prayer at school and school-related events tramples on the rights of Americans.

The order Miller referred to was issued earlier this year in response to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU on behalf of two anonymous Pace High School students in 2008.

Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and the school's athletic director, Robert Freeman are accused of violating the order when Lay asked Freeman to bless the food at a luncheon for school personnel and booster club members.

Hundreds of students and teachers gathered at the federal courthouse in Pensacola to support the men as they stood trial Thursday. Lay and Freeman arrived at the courthouse Thursday morning to cheers from the supporters.

"Trouble is brewing," said Miller during his speech. "I believe a federal judge has gone well outside the bounds of the Constitution to declare prayer offered among adults is illegal," he said.

U.S. District Judge Casey Rogers is presiding over the trial. Closing arguments wrapped up around 5:15 p.m., News Five's Tiffany Craig is at the federal courthouse awaiting a verdict.

“Artical the third (amendment I)
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the exersise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech; or the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” word for word from the bill of rights, the prohibiting prayer set forth is unconstituional, and the aclu should be sent the bill and required to pay for any cost associated with this case.

It is very rare when the ACLU actually pays for a case they take to court,it is our tax dollars that are wasted for the nonsense they pursue.People should be protesting against this and writing their Senators and every body else they can to put a stop to this,if they believe so strong in the cases they take to court, they should pay for them.

I think it is pretty clear what the founding fathers thought about religion.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ prescribes the wisest rules

The Bible, when not read in schools, is seldom read in any subsequent period of life… [T]he Bible… should be read in our schools in preference to all other books because it contains the greatest portion of that kind of knowledge which is calculated to produce private and public happiness

John Adams…      SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE; JUDGE; DIPLOMAT; ONE OF TWO SIGNERS OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS; SECOND PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.1

The Holy Ghost carries on the whole Christian system in this earth. Not a baptism, not a marriage, not a sacrament can be administered but by the Holy Ghost. . . . There is no authority, civil or religious – there can be no legitimate government but what is administered by this Holy Ghost. There can be no salvation without it. All without it is rebellion and perdition, or in more orthodox words damnation.2

Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell.3

The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity.4

Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia – what a Paradise would this region be!5

I have examined all religions, and the result is that the Bible is the best book in the world.6

The founding father wrote separation of church and state to mean the doctrine and polices and leadership of the church be separate from the government, not his existence, prayer, belief or giving praise and thanks. If you are not the leadership of a church or someone acting as, and not talking about doctrine, polices or ideology, bid deal. They should be the ones being sued for getting into your rights of freedom of relion. Stick that in your A@@CLU.

Sad thing about the ACLU is they represent maybe one or two clients. They may get more than that but some of them drop out of the lawsuit. And the saddest part of all is the ACLU wins (like this case for instance) because of a few students. We need to shut them down.

aclu get a hint this is the 2nd one you have LOST!

There has been lots of fundraising going on to pay legal expenses. Over $69,000 was raised from Aug.3 to Sept. 15. So happy they have been found not guilty. There is a website set up where you can follow everything that has happened. It’s http://www.layfreemandefense.com.

I believe that our founding fathers knew exactly what they were doing when they held God and prayer in such respect to include it in the foundation of our country even though they believed in religious freedom. We would be wise to follow in their foot steps and teach our children the virtues that were held in such esteem so long ago.
