PENSACOLA, Florida - The Avalon Boulevard accident is cleared and the precautionary shelter in place notice has been lifted. All roads are now open. No leaks were detected as a result of the accident or when up righting the vehicle. The truck was carrying anhydrous ammonia and was in route to Tamico when the accident occurred. A replacement tractor will pull the trailer for offloading.Avalon, Pace, City of Milton, Bagdad, and Skyline fire departments along with Escambia County HAZMAT Team, Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, Sheriff’s Office, School Board; Florida Highway Patrol, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection, Lifeguard Ambulance Service, and Southern Waste Services responded to the accident reported at 9:58 a.m.
A precautionary shelter in place notice was issued for the half mile radius north of Avalon and I10, including Avalon Middle and Bennett Russell Elementary. The businesses in the area were also evacuated as a precaution. A shelter was opened by the America Red Cross at New Life Church Community Center but no one utilized the service.
