The Escambia County Sheriff's Office has worked hard to clean up a crime ridden section of Pensacola known as the Brownsville Community.Last night they rounded up, street gang wanna-be's during "Operation Thug Bust"
Cops say it was houses like this one where teenagers aspiring to be gang members would hang out together and get into all kinds of trouble.
"Individuals with a history of selling narcotics, a history of violent crimes, aggravated batteries, robberies," says Sgt. Robby Martin with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
Last night undercover officers along with SWAT team members confiscated drugs, guns and computers hoping to prevent gang member wanna-be's from becoming the real thing.
Sgt. Martin says these gang members-in-training would terrorize the neighborhoods and even used one house to practice home invasions. "They would go inside the house and basically portray a mock home invasion where a knock would come at the door and an individual would come to the door and they would barge through the door with a firearm in his hand."
"This was a good house nothing bad was going on here." A neighbor who did not want to be identified says he's glad the cops are cracking down on crime but in the case of his neighbor, they got it wrong. "All because they see a group of friends come in, sit outside on the porch, they think something's happening."
Three people were arrested, several more were detained in what investigators say is just the beginning of a new effort to make Brownsville a safer place to live.
