The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation of three employees.According to spokesperson Michele Nicholson, the investigation is being conducted to determine whether they "violated agency policies and procedures." Nicholson says the internal investigation is a result of last weeks arrest of Sheriff Charlie Morris on theft, bribery, wire fraud and conspiracy charges. But she says the investigation is not necessarily connected to that case.
Sheriff Morris was arrested Friday in Las Vegas. Federal prosecutors say Morris and is Director of Administration and Finance created fictitious bonuses for department employees. The employees were then told to return some or all of the bonuses because the money was being donated to charities.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist suspended Morris and named Edward Spooner as interim sheriff.
