PENSACOLA, Florida - Pensacola Police say an officer is on paid administrative leave after a man was run over by a patrol car.

Police say Officer Jerald Ard noticed a suspicious male at a construction site around 1:50 Saturday morning in the area of "T" and Cervantes Streets. Ard attempted to question the man, but the man fled on a bicycle.

Ard followed the man in his patrol car and even attempted to tase the man, police say. Eventually the suspect pulled into the parking lot of a vacant building, that's where he crashed his bicycle and fell into the path of Ard's vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. Police say Officer Ard has been with the force for four years.

Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the incident.

The victims family should be sued for messing up the police car if that the way you think there Dougstech. You statement is so straight from the mouth of the ACLU is pitiful. Moron tried running from the police on a bicycle and then crashed right in front of the officer chasing him sorry but hope it hurt…

And maybe not dougie. It’s funny that you always see the side of a criminal.Takes one to know one I guess. If I had a brother that did something illegal,or fought cops, ran,or whatever-then if the end result was he got tazed, shot,or whatever-I would say it was because he was STUPID.

“the suspect pulled into the parking lot of a vacant building, that’s where he crashed his bicycle and fell into the path of Ard’s vehicle.”

why was the idiot following so closely? why didn’t he brake?

obviously the officer is at fault in so many ways.

but ofcouse the only people who seem to reply here are all “hooray” when this could have been their own brother. maybe when they get the call they will learn.

To cool, they gave him a paid vacation. Hope he goes fishing. When he gets back maybe they will have a 4x4 for him to drive, with studded tires and a nice bush rack on the front. That way when the scumbags run he doesn’t have to wait to catch them in a parking lot, he can go off road and mow them down. Maybe some day they will be scared to run. If they run, run them over! Works for me and saves tax money. You got to love it, just a win-win deal.

So let me get this right,dougie-poo. The officer should be fired because the perp didn’t stop, crashed his bike and fell in front of a moving vehicle? Looks to me like if he was just enjoying a leisurely bike ride at 150 a.m., he could have told the officer that. Unless of course he was deaf and dumb. Well, one fits anyway. It was an ACCIDENT!

what is it w/ all these people getting ran over lately. i think we should outlaw cars just like guns they both can be used as weapons. wink

doug pnj had a better story. the guy had plenty of opportunity to stop and answer the officers questions, he was in a bad part of town acting suspiciously, and ran from the officer. he tried chasing him in his car and i thought the article said he was tazed but the guy continued to run and was inadvertanly run over by the police (Probably sheriff) i just dont have a problem with this. if you are around my business acting suspiciously at 0150, and refuse to stop and answer to the authorities for what you are doing when you have no business there, then you get whatever you get. he didint deserve to die but he did,  but i dont think the officer should be punished for it. i would rather read about a thief getting run over every day than businesses getting broken into every day. eventually the thieves will all either get kiled off or have incentive not to steal, either of which is okay by me, as long as the crime stops.
