Outside the walls of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, nothing has changed. But inside, Sheriff-elect David Morgan is putting the finishing touches on his transition as the county's new top cop. "Humbled and honored to be the Sheriff of Escambia County."
When he is sworn into office, he says everything will change. "We're going to be much more service oriented, getting back to basics like community policing."
Budget cuts will present challenges but will not cost the department in manpower, according to Morgan. "We may not have three helicopters. We may not have three ATV's on the beach. We may not have a lot of those things that they're use to but we will have a law enforcement presence."
Morgan says one of his goals is to increase patrols in the north and south ends of the county and specifically in the town of Century. "Primarily it's one of our areas that is worse for drugs, so we need to target those areas."
Morgan says whatever wounds may have been caused during the campaign between his supporters and that of his opponent Larry Scapecchi have been healed and they are now united goal of reading the county of crime.
Morgan will officially take office when he is sworn in at nine o'clock Tuesday morning at the Escambia County Courthouse.
