Man On Golf Cart Arrested For Drunk Driving

BONIFAY, Florida - Drinking and golf might mix. But drinking and driving don't, even if you're driving a golf cart.

Florida State Troopers were on the scene of a fatal accident on County Road 177 Tuesday afternoon when Jerry Ogburn drove up on a golf cart just to look at the crash." That's not against the law. But driving under the influence is.

Ogburn was arrested for DUI and booked into the Holmes County Jail. Troopers say it's not his first DUI arrest.

Because of Ogburn's drunk driving history, his golf cart was supposed to have an ignition interlock device which would prevent him from starting it if he'd been drinking

As far as the crash that drew Ogburn's attention, troopers say 19 year old James Kilgore of Defuniak Springs was trying to exit at Fairway Drive. The right side tires of his Nissan Altima drifted onto the shoulder. Kilgore over corrected and the car spun out of control until it hit a wood fence and several trees. Kilgore was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 19 year old Brandon Joiner of Enterprise, was taken to Bay Medical Center with what troopers called serious injuries.

The sad part of all of this is someone lost their life and no where in the one paragraph about his accident does it say alcohol was involved.  YET the theme of this whole story is about drinking and driving.  In reality if the Bonifay PD really was concerned about drunk drivers on their golf carts they could go to the golf course most likely every weekend and arrest all the drunk drivers their jail could hold.

My sympathies to the deceased’s family as the true tragedy has been overshadowed by some rubber necking drunk on a golf cart.

Do you have a heart? A persons child is killed in a car accident and you have the gaul to worry about a man driving a golf cart down the road drunk. Be concerned for the things that effect the people around you.I DIDNT EVEN KNOW BRANDON PERSONALLY, but at least I know that his death doesnt deserve to be the tag end on a story.
