TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Federal authorities say a central Florida mantried to hire a hit man to kill the IRS agent who was auditing him.
The U.S. Attorneys Office in Tampa said Thursday that
48-year-old Randy Nowak of Mulberry is charged with attempting to
murder an employee of the federal government.
Prosecutors say that on Tuesday Nowak gave a $10,000 down
payment to an undercover FBI agent posing as a hit man, along with
orders to kill the female Internal Revenue Service worker who was
investigating his finances.
Prosecutors say Nowak, who owns a Polk County construction
company, asked the agent to burn down the IRS office in Lakeland.
Nowak could go to prison for as long as 20 years if he's
convicted.
It wasn't clear if he had an attorney yet.
