A Louisiana man drowned in the Gulf, off the coast of Egling Air Force Base, trying to save a child.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says a woman called 911 just after 1:00 pm Tuesday to report that a man had disappeared in the surf.

This afternoon, crews pulled 38-year-old Tracy Curling's body out of the water. Deputies say Curling, who's from Kenner, Louisaiana, was trying to save a child and another family member when he got separated from his boogie board and went under. The others got to shore safely.
