TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Legislature has convenedits 2009 regular session.
The House and Senate went into session Tuesday. Lawmakers will
spend the next 60 days focused mainly on balancing the state budget
amid a bleak financial outlook.
The first order of business for the House, though, was to elect
Rep. Larry Cretul as speaker. The Republican from Ocala replaces
Rep. Ray Sansom, a Republican from Destin, who stepped down because
of questions about his relationship with a state college that gave
him a job after he funneled about $35 million to the school over
the last two years.
