BREAKING NEWS

NEW YORK (AP) - A bankruptcy judge says Chrysler can go ahead
with its plan to terminate the franchises of 789 of its dealers.

U.S. Judge Arthur Gonzalez issued the order late Tuesday
afternoon. It says the franchises can no longer act as authorized
Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealers, effective immediately.

This means Sandy Sansing in Pensacola and Lee Jeep in Fort Walton Beach are no longer Chrysler dealerships.

Chrysler LLC says it needs to cut its dealer ranks by about 25
percent as part of its plans to cut costs and quickly emerge from
Chapter 11 protection.

But the dealers insist that their existence doesn't result in
any substantial costs for the automaker.

If a dealership is not making money, then nature will take care of them soon enough.  Many of the dealerships on the hit list are profitable businesses and I can’t see how that hurts Chrysler.  Unless, like you say, they plan to sell all these franchises again under the Fiat banner.

“WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Chrysler’s sale to Fiat, turning down a last-ditch bid by opponents of the deal.”

So much for contract law…..

I wonder if it’s like buying a franchise from Chrysler? Iffing they decided to sell these 789 openings at a later date, what would be their worth to Chrysler? Wonder how much support Chrysler gives each dealer?

I don’t understand this one at all and I’ve heard no one explain it adequately!
