SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) - A Gulf Coast man is charged withkilling his 81-year-old mother by beating her with a telephone and
remote control and then holding her underwater in a pool.
Kevin Simmons is scheduled to make his first court appearance
Monday morning. He's being held at the Hernando County Jail without
bail.
Sheriff's officials say the 57-year-old was arrested when
deputies came to his Spring Hill home about 3 a.m. Sunday.
His wife called 911 about the same time a medical alert summoned
paramedics.
Officials say Dorothy Simmons was partly pulled from the pool
when deputies showed up. Her legs were still in the water.
Investigators say they do not know what set off Kevin Simmons.
Spring Hill is about 60 miles north of St. Petersburg.
