Gulf Breeze Mayor Dies

Florida Mayor  Mayor Lane Gilchrist passed away Friday after a long battle with Leukemia. He was 72 years old.

Gulf Breeze Mayor Lane Gilchrist has passed away.

City Manager Buz Eddy tells News 5 Gilchrist died Friday morning after a long battle with Leukemia. He was 72 years old.

Gilchrist was first elected Mayor in 1992. He was a member of the City Council for 10 years before that.

Mayor pro tem, Beverly Zimmern, will fill the rest of Gilchrist’s term, which ends December 2010. Zimmern has been a member of the City Council since August 2001.

Gilchrist is survived by his wife Suzanne and their two sons, Lane and Michael.

Funeral arrangements pending.
