The Okaloosa County Law Enforcement Benevolent Association has set up trust funds for the families of two deputies killed in the line of duty.Deputies Burt Lopez and Warren "Skip" York were shot and killed Saturday while trying to arrest Joshua Cartwright for beating his wife. Sheriff Edward Spooner says the men shocked Cartwright with a stun gun. Cartwright then pulled his gun while lying on the ground and began shooting.
Deputy Lopez leaves behind a wife and five children, ages eight to 28. Deputy York leaves behind a wife and a 10-year-old son.
Trust funds have been set up for both the Lopez and York family at Beach Community Bank. Donations can be made to any of the following accounts:
- Fund strictly for Deputy Lopez's family.
- Fund strictly for Deputy York's family.
- A combined fund to be equally distributed to Deputy Lopez's family and Deputy York's family.
- General donations may be made to the Okaloosa Law Enforcement Benevolent Association.
