The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is issuing a fraud alert.

Deputies say a man claiming to be a homeowners' insurance risk assessor ripped off a Mary Esther couple. The man called the couple late last month saying he needed to do an inspection to allow their insurance company to better assess the couple's homeowner policy. They set up an appointment. The man came over, took pictures and asked for $80.

After the man left, the couple called their insurance company which said they didn't send the man to their home. The couple then put a stop payment on the $80 check.

Anyone who feels he/she may have been victim of this suspect is asked to contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office at 850.651.7420 or 850.689.5705.
