PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A judge has sentenced the former head ofFlorida's Sheriffs' Association to six years in federal prison.
Judge Lacey Collier sentenced former Okaloosa County Sheriff
Charlie Morris to 71 months on Tuesday.
Morris pleaded guilty in May to fraud and money laundering after
FBI agents arrested him in a Las Vegas hotel with $30,000 in cash
in a hotel safe and another $5,000 in his pockets.
The government traced the money to an employee bonus kickback
scheme. The federal judge also ordered Morris to pay more than
$212,000 in restitution to Okaloosa County.
Morris and four other former department employees still face
state charges related to the scheme.
