TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The state has accepted a $1.35 million
bid for one of its three executive aircraft used by Gov. Charlie
Crist and other top officials.
The turboprop Beechcraft King Air 300 is being sold to help cut
expenses.
Florida Department of Management Services Secretary Linda South
agreed on Wednesday to take the high bid from George Levin of Fort
Lauderdale, although it was about $600,000 less than officials
thought the plane was worth. Two other bids came in at $1.03
million and $727,770.
A legislative study recently concluded the state could save
$700,000 to $2.5 million a year by selling one or more of the
planes and using commercial, charter or air-taxi services.
There are no plans to sell the other planes. South said
officials also are cutting back on flights.
