HOMOSASSA, Fla. (AP) - A suspicious fire has burned down a
Florida mobile home where 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford was raped and
murdered four years ago this month.
The crime by a repeat sex offender prompted lawmakers in Florida
and other states to pass Jessica's Law, a set of stricter rules for
tracking and convicting sex offenders.
A fire Sunday gutted the vacant trailer where John Evander Couey
used to live about 75 miles north of Tampa.
County officials called the fire suspicious and state fire
marshals are investigating.
Couey was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
He told investigators he kept Jessica in a closet for several
days before burying her alive outside the trailer. Jessica was
abducted on Feb. 24, 2005, from her home nearby.

To mustuknow; my sentiments exactly!! I think the father moved from the area, but I’m sure the rest of the community has scars from the tragedy. How could anyone move past this if a big part of it is still there?

Well all I can say is that it is probably better that this trailor is gone, maybe now the community can begin to heal. I cannot imagine having to drive by that trailor and know what happened there day in and day out. I’m not condoning arson but sometimes out of sight can help the healing of all those affected.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Lunsford family. No one should have to endure the he!! of losing a child especially not under such horriffic circumstances.

NO, this is the girl who was abducted in the middle of the night and it was the neighbor (petifile) who raped her and buried in the back yard about 4 years ago. Has anyone heard anything else about the other little girl in FL that was abducted last week.

Is this the same girl that died in a car accident. That was raped by her step father that was an officer.
