Robert Whitehead spent part of his Memorial Day Weekend behind bars. He was arrested Saturday night for causing two drunk driving crashes.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says 38-year-old Robert Whitehead hit a car at the intersection of Highway 98 and Scenic 98 and another vehicle just down the street. Deputies say he was so drunk that he kept on going.

Deputies arrested Whitehead Monday and charged him with property damage and personal injury, refusal to submit to a blood alcohol level test (2nd offense) and leaving the scene of a traffic crash with property damage and personal injury.

I have a friend who was drinking and driving.  He said he had done this for years.  He was driving home one day and it was raining, he hit another vehicle or the vehicle hit him, it could not be determined and one person ended up dead.  The dead man was doped up as well.  My friend walked to a nearby house to call for help.  He sat in jail for two days because he was afraid to call his step dad because his step dad himself was the victim of a hit and run that killed his wife and unborn child many years before and was strictly against alcohol.

I feel really really sorry for my friend that he is in jail, but if he has not had to learn this lesson, I do believe he would already be back on the road and probably drinking again because he thought he could handle a vehicle while he had alcohol in his system.

This boy wouldn’t hurt a fly that landed on him, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t serve time for what he has done. He will think twice before drinking again, I’ll bet.

Well, seeing as I have had a family member drink and drive, and take out 3 parked cars-he went to jail just like everyone else. Period. This man made a two choices-one, to drink, two to get behind the wheel of a vehicle-a weapon,in the wrong hands-like those of a drunk. If he wanted to get lit, that’s his business. If he wanted to get lit, and then jeapordize everyone in his path-that’s EVERYONES business. He could have stayed home and drank himself to oblivion, he didn’t have to risk innocent lives. Sorry, doesn’t cut it to the folks who have lost someone to a drunk driver. Sorry, doesn’t bring families who are killed by someones selfish choices of drinking(or drugging) and driving.

They say you have to reach rock bottom to truly get help. Maybe the thought of losing his law license, his practice, his family-will be his rock bottom to check into rehab and stay off the bottle. But to enable him, by making lame excuses-is pathetic.jmo

Something called “Tough Love” isn’t practiced enough nowadays.  Mollycoddling these folks doesn’t do any good, they just become repeat offenders after the courts give them a slap on the wrist for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th time.

Not true Countrygirl. I put the father of my two children out of our home 4 years ago. He kept getting arrested for drug charges. I cleaned up my act. He didn’t so he is no longer in the picture. If this was a loved one of mine I would show them no mercy. It is stupid to put other peoples lives in danger. My sister had problems with drinking, she had an accident injuring 2 innocent people. Not one time did I attempt to stick up for her. Sure I’m cold hearted I suppose. But what is good for one is good for ALL. Endangering the life of others is something I personally do not tolerate for ANYONE. I’m glad to see some people are not as cold as I am about the issue, but it is people like that who is giving the “slap on the wrist” as you put it Beachtoes.

GO BEACHTOES!!!!  I’m glad that his true friends are standing up for him.  He is going to get help, and he is sorry for what he has done, and yes, thank God that he didn’t hurt anyone or himself.  He does try to be there to help his family, friends, and clients.  He is a good person.  I’m proud to call Scott a friend and I think that everyone needs to consider, what if it was your loved one or friend?  You can spout all you want to that you would be talking about them bad as well, but we all know that isn’t true.

Beachtoes don’t go giving anyone the third degree about alcoholics and the addiction. I am a recovering alcoholic/drug user. Been clean and sober for 7 years now. NO one made me get help. I got help on my own. It did not take me having a adult criminal record to decide to get help. I did not need any kind of system to baby me and help me get help. It is not the systems place to force people into treatment they could get without using government money. Everyone has the option to get help themselves. Apparently he is aware he is a alcoholic from what you say? Then he knows he should had been in treatment long ago and not waiting until he gets caught red handed. No one said he was a bad person. Good people do stupid things and good person or not, it does not excuse his actions and he deserves to be punished for them. Hopefully he will take it upon himself to get help after his day in court.

beachtoes you have a chip on your shoulder.  We know about alcoholism etc.  We just want these d—m drunks off the road and to be punished.  I take care of my diabetes so I don’t have low or high blood sugar when I am driving so I do not harm myself or anyone else.

Drunk drivers are selfish people WHEN they are drunk.  This Whitehead had choices -take a cab or get someone to drive him home.  But, no he was selfish, thinking of no one but himself when he got behind the wheel.

If you had your family nearly wiped out by a drunk driver you just might feel differently.  I nearly lost FOUR daughters, a husband and myself…...all innocents—the driver however was very selfish PERIOD.

i just said that your theory on alcoholism is antiquated and limited. no i am not a drunk but i am sober for over 20 years. I am extremely educated on the subject. You sound like another self righteous bore this country is full of. NO i do not defend thier rights to be on the road or to drive drunk and am firmly against it. Be that as it may, these are still very seriously ill people and all your ranting won’t change that so if you want a safer society, go to the right people to make change happen. You can get in the drunks face all day long - be logical, be right, even beat them over the head with shame and truth. cry, beg, plead and they won’t get it - have fun with that. If on the other hand you want change, make it judicial and/or medical.Get pissed at judges who slap wrist, get pissed at lobbyist who peddle legal drugs. Jail doesn’t cure a drunk or addict-just sobers them up. Recovery is lifelong. Yes is is a treatable disease I have an amazing life now. do more research.

What did she just say???

And one last thing…i know Scott. He is a kind man who has a huge heart and does such wonderful things for people that you can’t even imagine. Recently he has championed an woman in her late 80’s and protected her frm real evil and when she was in the hospital he was there to help her everyday, far from a lawyer. He was her friend when she desperatley needed one. i know. I was there. He is ill. Let him find peace and deal with his illness in privacy, as any of you would wish should you be in the same situation. And for his daughter who i know is reading this…my dear, it is caroline. if you want to call jay or dane and get my number and call me I will be there to listen to you should you need an ear and someone who really understands this and can offer you how to get help for yourself.

the rest…answer ll you want but educate yourselves and thank god he didn’t seriously injure anyone or himself.
