PENSACOLA, Florida - Sheriff's deputies say Michael Gainey acted out his twisted fantasy at a West Pensacola gas station Sunday. Investigators say Gainey approached a group of kids and identified himself as a sheriff's deputy. Gainey, wearing blue jean shorts and flip-flops, pretended to use a police radio and hidden mic under his collar. The teens told investigators Gainey did not have a badge."Some kind of power trip, feeling like he's in control, he's a big guy and these were teenagers," says Sgt. Ted Roy with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. "We want people to trust us and have faith in us and so when someone goes and does the opposite we kind of take it to heart."
Roy says pretending to be a cop wasn't enough...Gainey took the act one step further and grabbed several of the kids, searched their truck and then told the teens he would collect urine samples to check for drugs. Gainey's act didn't last long. Deputies tracked Gainey to his house a few hours later and charged him impersonating a law enforcement officer. Gainey was also charged with battery, car burglary and drug possession.
