Escambia Sheriff's Deputies are on the lookout for a man who robbed the Compass Bank on N. Davis Highway this morning.
Investigators say the suspect handed a teller a note demanding money around 9:00am.
Witnesses say he was last seen walking away from the bank toward the interstate.
No weapon was seen.
Witnesses describe the robber as a white man in his late 40's to early 50's with a medium build. He was wearing a light-colored baseball cap and glasses with khaki pants and a green shirt.

If I recall, I don’t think anyone said anything about the teller who was robbed!! I’m not saying that it isn’t the robbers fault for what happened, because it is, but it is obvious that if the bank, as a whole, had stricter security policies, this could have been avoided!! I’m sure your Mom was scared, that was never a doubt or question!! Don’t assume that anyone blames your Mom for what happened!! You’re being defensive about an issue that wasn’t even directed towards your Mom!! Ofcourse there are nothing but negative things to say because it’s a bank robbery, IT’S NEGATIVE!! I’m sorry you’re Mom had to go through that but you need to understand that NO ONE mentioned your mom!! I’m sorry if you got offended but you assumed and we all know what that does!!

I am not saying it is good that any particular person workign there got robbed but Compass as a whole just stinks!! I had a joint checking account with my fiancee, when we seperated (a very ugly one) we closed that account and hoping to never see him again, I re opened an account at compass in my name only, and several days later i recieve a debit card in the mail with his name on it, for MY account, I called and the lady could not give me an explanation as to why they added him to this account, I thought you needed to sign papers and all that good stuff. Well after several hours/days of arguign with these people, the branch manager of the Compass in Chickasaw (which is where I opened my account) tells me in order for him to remove him we both need to come down and have him sign something saying he wants to be removed!!!! well they sure didnt need that to put him on and why does he get to say he “wants” to be removed?? Its my account!!!!

seg602,  I read 1 comment on here that states they are happy the bank got robbed, others were just relaying facts or observations on why they do or dont like banks, compass in perticular. It is bad that your mom was robbed, and I’m sorry for that, but sarcasm and anger toward all is not necessary.

wow im glad everyone has negative stuff to say! it was actually my mom that got robbed and she was actually scared to go back to work!! so thats real cool that you think that it is good that she got robbed! and maybe since they did get robbed they will have the ‘no hats,no sunglasses’ thing. or a security guard. But obviously they didnt! how about ya’ll be a little bit more respectful. thanks!!

Well, I don’t blame you for leaving them for that reason!! Sounds like they neglected to pay enough attention to customer service!! I was mainly aiming at the people who get fees on their accounts because they don’t keep up with their spending and then when their account gets overdrawn, they wanna complain about being charged for using money that isn’t theirs!! They need to read their paperwork when they open the account!!

I was talking mostly about the rise in fees for no reason but to gain more revenue.  Compass raised fees on their services several times in the 3 years I was with them, so I said bye to them. They also let 3 checks go thru my account that were fake, and I mean FAKE, not my name, not a real bank account number, and not my address, when asked how this could happpen they said “we are sorry” What…I came unglued over it and that was the last straw for me.

For all of you fee haters:

I strongly believe that if the information that is given to you at the time of your account opening had been read, then you would realize what the fees were for!! I can guarantee you that no fee will be applied to your account without a written explanation and warning of the possibility of these fees and how they are accrued!! People make mistakes also and in the event that a bank makes a mistake, I can also guarantee that they will take full responsibity of that mistake and refund your fees!! However, that’s only if it’s truly a bank error and not the error of the customer!! Here’s a bit of advice, check your account on a daily basis and use a check register!! This can be the solution to all of your problems!! But hey, that’s just my personal opinion!!

I work for a bank that enforces the “no hats, no sunglasses” policy and even though alot of people complain when they are asked to remove these items, this is exactly why!! This guy had on a hat and I firmly believe that he could be identified much easier, by his hair color or facial features, if his hat had been removed!! All banks and credit unions shouold definantly enforce this policy for the safety of everyone!!

yes I agree I now bank with Alabama Power Credit Union and they are so much friendler and no “surprise” fees

Credit Unions are the way to go, just make sure you know ALL the fees and regulations upfront.  Most are cheaper in the fees and you get better service. Only drawback is limited locations for each one.
