The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is grounding its Air Unit as part of budget cuts brought on by the recession.

Sheriff David Morgan says the department will ground it's two helicopters as of March 1st. Four people, including three pilots, will be laid off. The other three members of the Air Unit are sworn deputies and will be retained.

The department does not have plans to sell the helicopters at this time. They will be put in storage for now.
