A 76 year old man is beaten outside his home Monday night just before 7 p.m. in the 6400 block of Sycamore Street in Milton, Florida.
Willie Smith has bruises and a broken nose after being beaten and having a flower pot broken over his head.
Smith said, "Somebody hit me real hard, jumped on me from my back. I never saw him coming."
In front of the Smith house, you could see some pieces of the pot that the man used to hit him in the head.
Smith said the robber pushed him down and apparently knew him.
He said, "(The robber) started hitting me pretty good, all in the face, all in my nose. (He said) 'Give me your money,' and he called me by my name: 'Willie Dee, Willie Dee, give me your money.' "
The 76 year old man said he was pinned on the ground for ten minutes.
When asked if he thought the man would kill him, Smith said, "Well, he mentioned it a couple of times. He said, 'Willie Dee, don't make me have to kill you,' but he didn't say how."
Smith said the robber finally pulled the money out of his pocket and took off on foot.
Then, Smith said he got up and went into his house.
His wife was inside, but couldn't hear the struggle.
Alice Smith said when she saw her husband's face "I thought he had been in an accident, a wreck or something. I didn't know what had happened."
When asked if he felt lucky to be alive, Smith said, "Yes, sir, I do, I really do. I feel like the Good Master had a Hand in it."
If you have any information on who may have beaten Smith, call the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office Crime Stoppers Unit at (850) 473-STOP.
