4-Year-Old Weighed Only 10 lbs.

Florida Santa Rosa County Police arrest woman in charge of 4-year-old who weighed just 10 lbs. when they were brought to the hospital. The child also had bed sores and was dehydrated.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a heartbreaking case of child cruelty.

The Department of Children and Families contacted the Sheriff's Office on March 12th when a 4-year-old was brought to Sacred Heart Hospital, weighing just 10 pounds.

The child's body temperature was only 91.1 degrees. Normal body temperature for any healthy human is 98.6. The child was also dehydrated and had bed sores.

Deputies say the 4-year-old has a pre-existing medical condition which requires him/her to be on a feeding tube. The child is also supposed to be on seizure medication, but doctor's did not find any traces of the drug when doing blood tests.

Doctors determined the child suffered from utter neglect at home. So Friday afternoon, deputies arrested the child's caregiver, 19-year-old Erin Markes. The Pace woman is charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm, a 2nd degree felony. Bond was set at $100,000.

The child is still in the hospital.

The child’s “caregiver”? Where were the parents? Where was the Child Welfare Dept? Don’t sweep this under the rug!

This is truly heartbreaking, I don’t even have words to express my feelings about such abuse and this comes from and older couple who have helped raise a few abused kids. Protect the children,they are the future.
