CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) - A 16-year-old Florida girl who hit her
father when he tried to spank her has been charged with misdemeanor
domestic battery.
An Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office report says the father told
a deputy that he was attempting to spank the girl when she turned
around and struck him in the face with her fist.
The report said she tried to hit him several more times before
leaving with friends.
Both father and daughter said the argument started over an item
that had been broken. The girl says he slapped her face when she cursed
at him. She acknowledged that when he went to spank her, she
punched him.

These worthless excuses for police officers were idiots. The father wasn’t disciplining her, he was beating her because she accidentally broke some dollar store item.

Chances are this worthless gorilla of a man was twice her size and had a clear intention to beat her over an item that had little value and that there is a ready supply of a few blocks away. This wasn’t discipline. Discipline involves teaching right from wrong. There was no teaching involved. This was some ape’s attempt to prove what a big man he was by beating a child.

At 16 years old both my Mother or my Father would have knocked my teeth down my throat for cussing at them! I would have deserved it, and the police would not have been called. However that was a different time than we have now. Today’s children think anytime Mom or Dad touches them, that that’s abuse and they can report them. Some parents are scared to discipline their children, in fear of prosecution by the authorities. Where as, when I was a kid, the Sheriff would come out and watch you receive a proper butt-whoopin! Oh how times have changed. atlangel114, I could care less what you talk about, I just don’t think it’s your place, my place, or anyone else’s to tell ANYONE how to raise their child. That is unless you work for the authorities that governs the laws on discipline and punishment. If you feel disciplinary action is being taken too far on any child, than you should report it to the proper authorities!

This, to me, does not sound like child abuse. This sounds like a child who has authority problems and a father who waited too late to be the father. She cursed at him and he slapped her (I wouldve done the same thing). Only difference with me and him, 1. I wouldnt spank a 16 year old girl….2. She wouldve have toted a butt whoopin’ ajax wouldnt have been able to take off. I spank my little children when they need it and my older daughter gets important things taken away.

And striking a child in the face, kicking and punching are all abusive behaviors. They have no place in a home. I believe any form of discipline in anger (including yelling and screaming) results in a warped sense of authority and dysfunction.

For those that don’t spank, good for you. For those that do, good for them if it’s done in love and without anger in a reasonable way. BTW spanking is legal in all 50 states and does not = abuse.  What some don’t realize is that spanking is also tied to Christian beliefs. “Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die.” -Proverbs 23:13.  There’s not enough time to discuss the whole topic here, but many Christians believe that spanking is designed to teach the result of sin/disobedience early in life because we believe the effects later to be infinitely worse than any spanking. And yes this is a public forum and all are free to share their thoughts on the matter, but don’t expect a warm welcome when you slur people’s way of life and their creed.

No one has a right to slap a person in the face. It is the ultimate form of disrespect. I really hope that they bring charges against the father. Someone made a comment to “Sweep around your own back porch…” I guess we should explain to you that this is a commentary forum ie. You post your thoughts about the topic.
Also, you do not know whether or not the child has been abused on a regular basis. My guess is that she has and that she was acting in self-defense. Items get broken. People are clumsy. That is NO EXCUSE to resort to violence. Thanksgiving and Christmas are prime times for abusers who use control over their victims. The abuser knows the victim wants to be with family and friends but many abusers use this to get a tighter grip on their victims causing even more stress.
Parents have a responsibility to provide a safe home environment for their children.

DEW26M that is so true

I feel it’s not anyone’s place to tell you rather “to spank, or not to spank”! Me personally, I got whooped just about everyday, I deserved them but they still did no good. I do NOT spank my children, nor my step children because I have a stern voice when needed, and that’s all it takes. They know when Daddy means business. However, my own Children are all under 5 years old. Rather or not it will take further disciplinary actions as they grow older remains to be seen. No one should be in here telling anyone else how to raise their kids period, plain and simple, if it’s not YOUR child, it’s not your business! Sweep around your own back porch before sweeping others.

I was subjected to spanking while growing up but it was always a last resort. It was never meant so much to teach me as it was to deter me from doing wrong again. I don’t think all children require spanking but there are some that do and still others that it does no good for. It’s a choice that the parent has to make but unfortunately some choose to abuse.

Razor, s’alright.
