WASHINGTON, D.C. - The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent
for the first time since 1983 - and is likely to go higher.
Nearly 16 million people can't find jobs even though the worst
recession since the Great Depression has apparently ended. Many
economists worry that persistently high unemployment could
undermine the recovery by restraining consumer spending, which
accounts for 70 percent of the economy.
The Labor Department says the jobless rate rose to 10.2 percent,
the highest since April 1983, from 9.8 percent in September. The
economy shed a net total of 190,000 jobs in October, fewer than the
downwardly revised 219,000 lost in September, but more than
economists expected.
Economists say the unemployment rate could climb as high as 10.5
percent next year because employers remain reluctant to hire.

Gas?  Yea I like the prices not going up but if you compare our cost to the rest of the world it’s considerably lower.  Take into consideration that 30 years ago a loaf of bread, a pack of cigarettes, and a gallon of gas cost about the same amount.  Check out the prices today.  They are still comparable. Cost of living affects all commodities. Put everything into perspective and if anyone has any ideas how to reverse the process I am more than interested.  Hey, the price of cars went up too.  When I was 19 I bought a brand new car for 6k and it was an american car at that.

Actually, since Im on my way back to Mobile from Vermont, Im paying about 3.00 a gallon. Last summer I was paying over 4.00.
I dont think killing people to get cheaper gas is worth it. But who knows, Im sure there are those that do.

I personally can’t figure out what he’s doing.  He promised change and I’m seeing a lot of that.  We can all sit here and argue whether it’s good or bad but we can’t stop him. I think we are wasting our time with that.  I prefer to hide and watch.  Like I said before, maybe he believes the world will end in 2012 and none of this will have to be repaid. Now, that was a joke everybody.

tallbird. How much do you pay for a gallon of gas now? If not for Iraq and stability in the region the cost to produce gas would be extreme and passed on to we the consumers. As for the point in time our country elected to invade Iraq there was quite a bit of support for it. If you don’t think the muslim idiots aren’t hellbent on killing each and everyone of the rest of us just go ahead and keep your head in the sand. They’ll just get you a little sooner. If you haven’t figured out that the elected officials will never allow themselves to be held accountable, again, just keep your head in thesand. They make the rules and the rules will always benefitthem.
cissie. Why do you have contempt for a man just because he is successful? John McCain’s father and grandfather made their own way in the world as did he. You can bet obamie had his share of handouts along the way as well. Why don’t you consider the people obamie has associated himself with over the years? How many radicals is he known to be tied to? If you would rather support someone trying to tear America apart, so be it.

I still say we have to wait and see. Sadly allot of people are going to suffer in the meantime, but I really do not believe that any president could have pulled this mess out in a short time. It has been a short time (of course not if you are one of the unemployed). I wish everyone could have gotten their knickers in half the twist they are in now when the decision to go to war wasnt seriously looked into either. When objections were raised they were called unpatriotic. Now we are horribly into debt in a war tht is not a win/lose proposition and never was. AND if we had stayed and put the resources into Afghanistan we wouldnt be trying to figure that one out either. People have been sending people to die and spending us into oblivion. That isnt the present administrations fault. If your only way of employing yourself is destroyed in a flood and you have no insurance, you have to go into debt to rebuild so you can actually make a living again. In the time it takes to rebuild you are going to suffer. We need to rebuild. I completely agree that we need to hold elected officials accountable but that means ALL of them. I dont agree with just moving on either. If we hold should hold criminals accountable for the damage they do then….......

China is a socialistic society which is what everyone is accusing Obama of.  I don’t think I’m on the same page anymore.  My daughter went there 3 years ago for a summer trip.  She said she would never go back.  Everything is made in China for a reason.  Labor is cheap.  They can’t see the sun for all the pollution that the industrialism has contributed to.  Oh, this one I like—-If you have more than 2 children you have to pay a penalty to the government.  THEY are that over populated and if we don’t do something we will be dealing with a situation such as that.

You are joking right?  China?

Personally, I could care less if someone has money or not. I don’t “get” that logic. But anyway, science is great…..as long as we have a country to be able to utilize it. China has a highly scientific population also, don’t they? wink

Well, I watched the debates and could not bring myself to vote for a guy that was a millionaire before he was conceived and stuck his tongue out after every comment and a beauty queen that winks constantly.
That’s all I got to say about that.  Not really but I’ll stop.  Besides, the democrats want to pour a lot of money into science not war.  lol I’m not in the military.

Sorry cissibee, I don’t see Obama making too many “intelligent statements,” either. At least not without the TOTUS. smile I’m just not sure why anyone would have “faith” in someone who only voted present, and has NO track record? Yep,I for one can’t wait until the next election. Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t think Ms.Palin will be running, other than the trails in the Alaska wilderness.
