The Springhill Medical Center Grandman Triathlon

Fairhope Municipal Pier - Fairhope - Alabama
Saturday May 31 2008 - 7:00 AM - 12:00PM

Please join us for the Springhill Medical Center Grandman Triathlon to benefit Mobile Baykeeper, The Baldwin County Trailblazers and Camp Rap-A-Hope. This is a swim bike run.

May 31, 2008 at 7:00 AM at Fairhope Municipal Pier in scenic Fairhope, Alabama.

The event begins with a 1/3 mile swim straight out into Mobile Bay and back beside the Fairhope Municipal Pier. After the swim comes a 16.4 mile bike ride through Fairhope. The ride begins with one steep hill and five miles of rolling countryside. The last five miles of the course is relatively flat. The race to the finish line begins with a 3.1 mile run along the Bay. What a great way to spend a Saturday!

This year the Grandman will benefit three noteworthy local organizations: Mobile Baykeeper, the Baldwin County Trailblazers, and Camp Rap-A-Hope. Mobile Baykeeper provides citizens a means to preserve and protect the beauty, health and heritage of the Mobile Bay watershed. The organization works on air and water quality issues and counts the reduction of beach closures and swim advisories by 20% as one of its primary goals for 2005. The Baldwin County Trailblazers are responsible for an incredible system of hiking and biking trails that stretch from the Battleship USS Alabama to Mullet Point Park five miles south of the Grand Hotel. The Trailblazers hope to extend the trail to Weeks Bay National Reserve, and they are committed to fulfilling their goal of connecting community to community, town to countryside, and people to people. Camp Rap-A-Hope is a one- week summer camp for children and teenagers ages 7 – 17 who are battling cancer or who have ever been diagnosed with cancer.

If you’re interested in racing, please call Mobile Baykeeper at (251) 433-4229 or visit www.thegrandman.com for more information. If you’d rather cheer than race, think about volunteering! We need help with packet stuffing, packet pick-up, body marking, traffic control, water stations, awards ceremony and post-race party. Please call Tiffany at 433-4229 to volunteer.
